Examining Ambergris on a Pebble Beach
This ambergris on the shore, turned over in both hands, is genuine ambergris from my own photos at Ambergris Canada. I'm Nabil Valiulla, and I've assessed 4,678 specimens since 2004. If you've found something similar, anywhere in the world, send me photos and I'll help you identify and value it for free.

Another frame from my founder film. I am crouched on a pebble beach in a white shirt and jeans, turning a small, pale piece of ambergris over in both hands to look at it closely. Grey stones, a log and the edge of the water fill the background. This is how every check starts: up close, in good light.

I post new pieces, field trips and identification tips on Instagram.

Most of what washes up is driftwood and stone. I post the pieces that aren't, and how I tell them apart.
