Layered Grey and Tan Ambergris in Hand
This layered grey and tan ambergris, thin layers along one edge, is genuine ambergris from my own photos at Ambergris Canada. I'm Nabil Valiulla, and I've assessed 4,678 specimens since 2004. If you've found something similar, anywhere in the world, send me photos and I'll help you identify and value it for free.

- Layered grey and tan ambergris
- Notes
- Thin layers along one edge
A palm-length piece of ambergris held upright over grass, beside a dark rail. One long side shows thin, curving layers in grey and tan, stacked like pages, while the outer edge carries a white, speckled crust. The layering is easy to see from this angle, and it is one of the features I check on a broken piece.

I post new pieces, field trips and identification tips on Instagram.

Most of what washes up is driftwood and stone. I post the pieces that aren't, and how I tell them apart.
