Ambergris with a Porous Brown Top
This brown-topped ambergris, a porous top over white crust, is genuine ambergris from my own photos at Ambergris Canada. I'm Nabil Valiulla, and I've assessed 4,678 specimens since 2004. If you've found something similar, anywhere in the world, send me photos and I'll help you identify and value it for free.

- Notes
- A porous top over white crust
A chunky piece of ambergris held in an open palm in a bright room. The top is dark brown and spongy-looking, full of small holes, while the sides below are covered in a white, flaking crust with grey and brown streaks. The two layers meet in an uneven line around the middle of the piece.

I post new pieces, field trips and identification tips on Instagram.

Most of what washes up is driftwood and stone. I post the pieces that aren't, and how I tell them apart.
