Ambergris with a White Crackled Crust
This ambergris with a white crackled crust, over brown, held by a lamp, is genuine ambergris from my own photos at Ambergris Canada. I'm Nabil Valiulla, and I've assessed 4,678 specimens since 2004. If you've found something similar, anywhere in the world, send me photos and I'll help you identify and value it for free.
- Piece
- Ambergris with a white crackled crust
- Notes
- Over brown, held by a lamp
A hand-sized piece of ambergris held up beside a table lamp on a wooden table. A white crust covers the upper half and has cracked into a fine network of plates, with dark brown and black showing through the gaps. The lower half is a rougher, golden brown. Two more views, including a close-up of the crackle, are in the gallery.

I post new pieces, field trips and identification tips on Instagram.

Most of what washes up is driftwood and stone. I post the pieces that aren't, and how I tell them apart.
